LADY MEGGAN CHALLENGE CUP

SUNDAY, AUGUST 23, 2026

The Lady Meggan Challenge Cup is one of the Grosse Pointe Sail Club’s most treasured traditions. Before being renamed to honor the memory of Lady Meggan, this event was known for decades as the Ladies’ Race—a celebration of the women who sail, race, and lead within our sport.

The Ladies’ Race was created to spotlight and honor women sailors, a tradition deeply rooted in GPSC’s history. Our Club has long been home to accomplished women skippers, competitive crews, and an exceptional number of women who have served as Commodore—leading GPSC with skill, vision, and dedication.

Lady Meggan embodied that spirit completely. She was a fierce competitor, a skilled sailor, and an inspiring presence on and off the water. As fellow sailor Laura Gallien recalls:

“Meggan was a ball of energy, joy and life… genuinely thrilled I was there to race against. She beat me, of course, and I wouldn’t have wanted to lose to anyone else. There aren’t many women in the sailing community—I looked up to her so much and admired her confidence… She was an absolute force on the water, but also the warmest, most loving friend. She was simply the best.”

The Lady Meggan Challenge Cup continues to honor her legacy—celebrating the skill, leadership, and camaraderie that define GPSC women sailors, past and present.

The 2026 Lady Meggan Challenge will take place on Sunday, August 23rd. The Notice of Race, Sailing Instructions, and registration forms are available below.

The annual family picnic will follow the race at 1:30 pm.
