If you are interested in getting North for cruising or you are interested in a “Fun Casual Race,” this may be of interest. The Grosse Pointe Sail Club is continuing the tradition and will get the race started on Sunday, July 23, 2017 from Port Huron. The race has two stop-overs (Harbor Beach and Harrisville) and finishes at Presque Isle Harbor. There is no need to sail all night or in extremely bad weather. No need to sit with no wind or sail on a stripped out boat. You can even tow a dinghy or run your engine. All the boats rest each evening for cocktails, dinner, and a good night’s sleep. The next race segment will start the following morning. The finish is at Presque Isle Harbor with a celebratory awards brunch the morning after the finish. Following the awards everyone is only 30–40 nautical miles from De Tour Passage or False De Tour Passage (the North Channel entrances), or a short hop to Mackinac Island.
