MEMBERSHIP AT A GLANCE

The Grosse Pointe Sail Club is more than just a sailing club—it’s a welcoming community built around a shared love of the water, camaraderie, and lifelong friendships. With members from across the United States, GPSC is proud to offer membership opportunities to all sailing and boating enthusiasts, whether or not you own a boat or live in the Grosse Pointes. From spirited races and family-friendly social events to weekend getaways and regional club privileges, life at GPSC is full of ways to connect, explore, and enjoy the boating lifestyle—on your own terms.

SAILING

Racing is at the heart of GPSC, and our members keep the tradition alive with enthusiasm and skill. Each Spring, Summer, and Fall, the club hosts the Sundown Series—sixteen exciting weeknight races that welcome sailors from GPSC and nearby clubs. The action begins and ends at scenic Windmill Pointe Park, offering a perfect vantage point for spectators to take in the thrill of the race.

In addition to the Sundown Series, GPSC hosts a variety of exclusive member races, including the Lady Meggan Challenge, Operation Shanghai, and the always-spirited Frostbite. Our annual regatta is a highlight of the season, drawing racers from across Southeast Michigan and Windsor as part of the DRYA counter series.

New to sailing? You’re in the right place. Whether you’re curious or committed, GPSC skippers are happy to “show you the ropes” during real weekly races—no experience required, just a love of the water and a willingness to learn.

Beyond competition, sailing at GPSC is about connection—between people, wind, and water. Many of our sailors enjoy the camaraderie that comes with crewing together, sharing stories after a race, or simply catching the sunset from the cockpit. Whether you’re racing hard or just along for the ride, every outing offers the chance to deepen your skills and your friendships.

SOCIAL EVENTS

At GPSC, community and camaraderie are always in season. Whether you spend your summer on the water or prefer the view from the shore, our social calendar offers something for everyone. Throughout the year, members come together for a variety of cherished traditions and new favorites alike. From our signature steak roasts and lobster dinners to the elegant Commodore’s Ball and festive holiday-themed parties, there’s always a reason to gather and celebrate.

Family-friendly fun is part of our DNA, too—picnics, pancake breakfasts, and the beloved children’s Christmas party bring generations together in true GPSC style. For those who enjoy a lively night out, events like our pub crawls and regatta cocktail party provide the perfect mix of good cheer and great company. Boater or not, you’ll find plenty of opportunities to connect and create lasting memories at GPSC.

BOATING

While “sail” may be in our name, GPSC proudly welcomes powerboaters as a vital part of our community. Many of our members enjoy cruising the lake in comfort and style, often arriving by water to cheer on race nights or take part in special events. From raft-offs and rendezvous to dockside gatherings, there are plenty of opportunities for powerboat enthusiasts to get involved, connect with fellow boaters, and share in the spirit of the club.

RECIPROCITY

For over 75 years, GPSC has built a reputation for warm hospitality—and that spirit extends beyond our own docks. Through regional reciprocity agreements, our members enjoy access to a variety of other clubs across the area. Whether arriving by boat for a weekend getaway or stopping in by car for dinner and drinks, GPSC members are welcomed as guests at partner clubs throughout the season. Likewise, we take pride in hosting visiting boaters and sharing the camaraderie that defines our club.

RENDEZVOUS

Each year, GPSC organizes several rendezvous that bring members together for unforgettable weekends both on and off the water. Whether you cruise in by boat or drive in by car, these getaways offer a perfect mix of adventure and relaxation. Destinations span from the shores of Lake Huron to the harbors of Lake Erie, with itineraries that often include fine dining, sporting events, local tours, and scenic marina stays. It’s a great way to explore new places, make memories, and enjoy the boating lifestyle—GPSC style.
